Cairns, Magnetic island and Whitsundays

Wow, what a month! This has possibly been the best month since i started travelling, all those months ago! I dont really know where to start, so i shall start at the beginning!

Cairns:
I left perth for Cairns and as soon as i arrived i just felt really excited! You know when you get off the plane full of excitement and you know your going to have a great time, like you smell the air and you go oh it smells different! Cairns itself is really small, like there is one main strip on the esplanade where there are heaps of cafes, a night market, with heaps and heaps of backpacker accommodation. From cairns there is no end to the day trips you can do, it would take you forever to finish them all! The first trip i did was an overnight trip to Cape Tribulation, which was spectacular. There was so much rainforest around that it was breathtaking! Additionally we went on a river cruise trying to spot some crocodiles, which we saw a few but not heaps and big monsters like i was hoping, but still enjoyed it. In Cape Tribulation there was a beach, so for the most part i just sat on the beach for ages, but we couldnt swim in the ocean because there were stingers and crocs in the area, boooooo! The backpacker hostel was lovely, like small cabins and met loads of lovely people, like a young 18 year old (its times like that when i realise im not 18 anymore) from adelaide, a woman from czech republic and a french canadian guy, all nice and friendly! We went out for dinner, which was fun! Once i had got back from cairns, i went on a hot air balloon ride, which was fun and the views were spectacular! The next day i snorkelled the great barrier reef, also incredible! The fish and the coral had so much colour in them, was amazing to see! It is one of the great wonders of the world and i have seen it! Pretty incredible really. The following day i went white water rafting, was heaps of fun! Everyone in our boat gelled so much that it was a really fun day and we got so wet was so much fun! I also went to the waterfalls in the tablelands where peter andre filmed mysterious girl and where the herbel essences advert was filmed, so now my life is complete!!!!

Magnetic island:
I left cairns at 6am in the dark to get on the ozexperience bus, where as far as i was concerned the real east coast trip began! We drove from cairns to Townsville where i was to get on a ferry to go to a small island off Townsville that resembled something from lost! The hostel was awesome, was right on the beach, the dorms were small hut cabins and made some tight friendships with the girls that were in my dorm! The hostel had a bar so mainly we got pissed on the night and got some r 'n' r in the day! The daytime we went on a walk to spot some koalas. Then we went to a koala sanctuary where i got to hold one, which was pretty sweet! The island itself has heaps of beaches, so was lovely, like something from a postcard!

Airlie Beach/Whitsundays
Airlie Beach is the place you go to do your whitsunday sailing trip, which i have been looking forward to doing since before i flew out to Australia! Airlie Beach itself is incredibly small, its like one street where the shops and bars are, it is designed for tourism i feel. Airlie Beach at night is pumping but the daytime is a bit boring. It does have a lagoon where you can go for a swim and sunbake. They have a lagoon because you cant swim in the water because of the stingers! The bars are quite good, they have happy hour on every night and free drinks for ladies some of the time. The whitsunday trip itself was good, although it was raining for most of it, but you just have to make the best of it. We did snorkelling, rainforest walk, whitehaven beach (the finest sand in the world, only nasa can take sand as its heritage listed). The last few days had more sunshine so everyone got their tan on. The saling itself was pretty awesome, the boat was on a high angle, so it went super fast and everone got soaking wet, was awesome fun! Once i got back to Australia i caught up with a friend and we watched the royal wedding, was awesome to say that i was watching the wedding in a backpacker bar in Airlie Beach in Queensland in Australia!!!! Was fun though everyone was merrily drunk and cheering when certain people came on they telly!! Elton and the queen got the biggest cheer haha! I though william is getting ugly though haha!

So thats my month, pretty bad month ey?! The next stop is fraser island,  a sand island where u camp out and theres like a ship wreck and stuff! Im going via a cattle station for one night where i get to wrestle goats, crack a whip and ride a mechanical bull! looks fun! Im enjoying myself heaps at the moment but not much longer left really so making the most of my time here!

Perth, WA

So I left my home for 2 and a half months to come travelling and finish my trip in style! The last week at Meeka, was actually pretty awesome. Maybe that was to do with i was working less and drinking more? Well i was working roughly 4 hours a day, with some mornings off, some evenings off, so gave me plenty of opportunities to have some laughs. I was taken out by a local trucker type guy to the red dirt ( i can just imagine my mom cringing when she's reading this!) so, quickly did my morning duties of cleaning other peoples shit and off we went in his ute, in an unrelated issue i am so getting a ute when i can drive, talk about awesome! anyway we went to see some red dirt, an old well where the first settlers would get the water from, bit random but i thought it was cool. oh and there was a random seagull flying around the outback, thought that was odd, like why??? then alan (the trucker) threw some chips at him and even now like more than 10 years after the seagull in torquay event i screamed into the ute!!!!! i so need counselling for my seagull fear!! oh and i climbed a mini ayers rock, saves me from going now haha. then we went back to the pub and we all got drunk, like really drunk!!! was drinking beer, jacks, bundy and i didnt pay for one drink!!!! thats the good thing about small town aussie guys they like to buy slim(ish), white, foreign backpackers drinks, cant think why?!!!! but was a good night, was a few of us by the time it was closing time and i made a fool out of myself by dancing on the pool table. (was going to be detailed there but realised my mom, dad and nan might read this haha) ......the next day was the eve of my departure and yes i got drunk again, and again i didnt pay for one drink. but i do remember having a food fight in the kitchen, was halarious!!!!

anyway the next day was d day, departure day! so i got up, like a kid on christmas and got on the bus and we went to mount magnet as our first stop and i only bumped into a regular from the pub and so i swapped the stinky bus for his ute!! i so have an obsession over ute's! we drove back and we hung out at his folks place for a few hours, where we all went out for japanese dinner, all paid for by his company haha, then he dropped me at my hostel, wouldnt get that with the bus!

During my time at perth, i went to museums, the fremantle prison (which was awesome, so interesting for a geek like me!) felt like i was in chicago or shawshank redemption. when we was walking the corridor where the cells where, i just wanted to belt out "if you'd have seen it, if you'd have been there you would have done the same!" except that it was a mens prison not the only female prison where there is a hair and makeup department. looked round the parks etc. If im being honest i have found perth to be the most boring city so far. i think i prefer the smaller places, i think once you have seen the main sites to a city, not a lot to do really. It also doesnt help that im staying in a really bad hostel, serves me right for being so cheap. bad showers, bad mattress, too noisy, people are clicky so yeh bad hostel. but leaving for cairns on tuesday, where i will be going to cape tribulation, snorkelling, white water rafting, hot air ballooning, going on some hikes, inbetween hanging about on the lagoon. Going to get my tan on, hopefully the wet season should have ended by now, fingers crossed!!!!!

Meekatharra

So I left Sydney to come to Melbourne to find work and a flat, and what happened i got a job in western australia! The job was bar work and housekeeping in a country pub. I knew nothing of the area, but thought what the hell, its not like i've got any other option! So the madness began, I had to book a flight from Melbourne to Perth for the next day, didnt get into perth till 1am, was mad. The flight was fine, was on time, even though i went with the australian version of ryanair! It took like 3 hours to get to perth but after my flight from uk to sydney, that was nothing! I then got a taxi to my hostel, but nobody was in to sign me in, i thought shiiitttt!!!!! But then someone who was staying at the hostel was coming in, luckily and she let me in so i could at least get a couple of hours sleep. I had to get up at like 7 the next day to get my bus. I had no idea where i was going, but luckily a man with a van who i passed by gave me a lift to the coach terminal. I had plenty of time till my coach arrived so I had some time to get some breakfast. I got on my bus and it was fine, i thought this is it now for 13 hours. The bus stopped off at roadhouses, so we could get a toilet break and get some food. I got to Meekatharra and i was met at the stop and went to the pub, met loads of locals and some of the english girls. But i was a debbie and went straight to bed ha! So the next day I went downstairs and was introduced to tiphaine, a French girl i was to be working with for a couple of weeks. She was nice and we worked well together. My day comprises of housekeeping in the mornings, then bar work of an evening. It's easy work and the money's alright. I'm hardly spending anything at the moment, so good chance for me to save money for my travels.

After a week into my stay here I went to the Royal Mail hotel, which is another pub to mine, and we had some drinks a bit of a dance was a good night. After that I hung around with the english girls fairly reguarly, and they introduced us to some locals, which was a fun way of having a true experience! Mainly involving alcohol, but hey when in rome....I went to see all the local sights recently, involving five mile, like a water filled quary where people go swimming, a race track, a speed way, airport etc. That's it really ha!

Meekatharra is a really small town, so it is a true aussie experience! Theres loads of aboriginals who come into the pub, and they are tricky always ordering a block of emu export, a 1.25 bottle of coke, packet of chips and winfield blue! what a healthy way to live! but im not here to judge!

I'm enjoying my experience here, im not 2 sure how long im gonna be here, although I have less money than i thought, that serves me right for not checking my account since december! So might just stay for the 3 months which would give me back what i came to oz with, then do some more travelling up north and over to ayers rock. then work somewhere else for 6-8 weeks then start my east coast trip, all undecided as of yet. Depends when i can get work and things on when i come home but enjoying my time now...

I can't believe the floods and cyclones in queensland, i was going to do queensland when i first got to australia, its a good job i didnt now and came west. But there's no rush in heading east yet anyway so if i stay out here for 3-6 months then by time i go to cairns in maybe june then it will be better...then gonna head back down to sydney or maybe melbourne and fly home from there!!

love and miss you all lots xxxxxxxxxxx

First Month in Australia: Sydney/ Skippy's, St KIlda, Melbourne and Ramsey st

Hello!!

This month i feel like ive lived a more realistic Australian lifestyle. Once Ozintro ended I spent 2 weeks in Sydney, where I did some sightseeing, such as the darling harbour, opera house, the rocks, botanical gardens, circular quay, manly beach and bondi beach. I enjoyed it but spent so much money, i liked sydney but felt it was impersonal and was ready to move on. I then went to skippy's where we hung out, went to the pub, shopping in the local shopping centres. We spent christmas and nye together, that was so much fun!!For Christmas we did the family christmas with christmas dinner, drinks and sweets. It's the same as england really but rather than watching some crap telly in the afternoon they played in the pool outside! OOoh then for my birthday we went to a place called featherdale zoo, where i fed kangaroo's and petted koala's!! it was so awesome felt like i was really in australia!!! Then for NYE we went to luna park on the harbour bridge and the fireworks were spectacular! At luna park we went on rides in between drinking it was such a fun night!! much better than standing in the cold freezing your tits off!

We just got back from Melbourne, where we stayed at st kilda which is a coastal beachy town. i liked it there a lot!! So much so i decided to stay in Melbourne to work for a few months as the floods have gone crazy! Melbourne was really nice, big cafe coffee culture. I ordered a cappucinno and it came with a coffee shaped heart on the foam, i laughed a little! We shopped in Melbourne, as Melbourne is famous for shopping and coffee.  On the last day we went to Ramsay St, i took loads of pictures and met Dr Karl Kennedy!!!!! was so freaking awesome!!!! that was such a fun day :D

I am now sitting in Skippy's front room, i fly back to Melbourne tomorrow where i'm going to find work, i have already applied to a few jobs so hopefully they contact me soon! I am going to stay in Melbourne for about 3 months while the floods clear and earn some cash for my east coast adventure and start travelling in about April. So it looks like im staying for the full year, exciting but nervous at the same time. I'm unsure of if i want to do the 3 months fruit picking so i can stay for the 2nd year..im going to decide after melbourne because i will know how i feel about the home sickness and country by then! but so far im loving it and never want to leave xxxxxxxxx missing you all xxxxxxxx

First week in Australia

So it is now tuesday in my second week in australia and have now been in australia over a week, so sit back I shall now tell you about my week....

I arrived at Sydney Airport at 9.30am on Monday morning, I had not slept at all on my flight but was buzzing to be there, got through immigration quite quickly, luckily. I got myself checked in but the hostel didnt have a lift, so had to lugg my shit up the stairs (incidently (dont get angry mum) but i swapped cases with a girl from my ozintro group so i could have a backpack and we're gonna meet up and swap again when i get back lol) Once i got checked in we just chilled in the hostel room and resisted the temptation to sleep...In the afternoon we started the fun stuff, we went to the botanical gardens and had a walk around, saw the opera house and harbour bridge (that was the moment i thought im in sydney now! was a good feeling after all the months of work and living like a monk) Then we walked past the bridge and went jet boating in the harbour, that was wicked fun enjoyed that a lot! then once i got back we went out for some tea then just chilled on the beach, but i was falling asleep so just went to sleep lol im such a baby. The next day i think we went surfing, we went to a private beach and learned to surf, i was shit at it!! i was good when we were learning on the beach but as soon as we hit the water i was shit got the rope caught round my  neck scared the shit out of me, did manage to stand up once though!! after lunch couldn't be arsed to try again so just sun bathed!! which incidently i regret the shit out, cos i got sun burned so bad i got sun stroke and it was painful for days, only now have i got over it!! That night we went to a place called the gaff and i intended to get drunk but i nearly passed out got really dizzy felt so ill, but all i needed was some fresh air and water  but everyone was lovely to me which was good. I stayed for a bit after that but in the end went home early cos felt so bad :( The next day was a bit boring, it was just  the important stuff that needed sorted like banking and crap..but in the afternoon we did go to the aquarium it was good but its just a bunch of fish lol. The day after that we went to Bondi beach i liked that, that was also one of those times that i realised i was in sydney lol I had a jump in the waves but it was FREEZING so i got out and we went for a drink in a cafe. Then we did a gorgeous walk back to coogee across the coastline, took some nice pics and had a bbq and i watched everyone else play volleyball cos i suck at it..The next day i really enjoyed I went to the Blue Mountains i loved that, i love walking so i got to do some great walking took some nice pics and went on the steepest train ride in australia, was awesome fun!  Afterwards though i was nackered and we went on a walk down 1000 steps, its just as bad going down as it is going up.. On the Saturday we didnt do much, just sun bathed on Coogee beach but in the afternoon i somehow spent $2200 !!! i booked all my trips which lasts for 6 months, i booked a 6 months bus pass to cairns, a sky dive, sailing trip round whitsundays, trips to magnetic island, cape tripulation, fraser island, gold coast, brisbane, sky dive, white water rafting, and a scuba dive, im incredibly excited!! i think after nye im gonna head up to byron bay and find some work with a friend cant wait!!! On the sunday (the last day of ozintro) we went to sydney tower restaurant which looks out to the whole of sydney and revolves aswell and its a buffet, i enjoyed it there!! and after that ozintro was over :( sob so now im on my own, its mega scary but i should be ok, afterall this is why i came here isn't it?!

Yesterday (Monday i moved into my new hostel, its smack bang in middle of sydney city so i can walk everywhere but so far i prefer the smaller places but im only here for a week so should be ok...Last night though we cooked dinner with my room mates, one from japan, one from netherlands so was interesting!! then just chilled and watched movies in the common room, was nice cos my last hostel in coogee didnt offer much like that!!! Then today (Tuesday) i met up with a good, dear friend from camp and we spent the day at manly beach and circular quay. it was fun, we got the ferry to manly hung out on the beach had some lunch. i like it at manly its a nice beach town....im going to her town for xmas so that should be fun to see a proper aussie town...

first week has been pretty awesome, so im really excited for this next year of my life :D
